First Home Owner Grant information

The Commonwealth Government of Australia has proposed that the States and Territories help first home buyers with the assistance of the First Home Owner Grant.

The criteria for first home owners are:

  • applicants who meet the criteria (see below) are entitled to a one-off $7,000 payment.
  • applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, who are buying or building their first home.
  • applicants cannot have owned a home previously
  • applicants must not have applied for the grant in the past
  • the home or residence must be within Australia
  • the applicant/s must use the home as there residence within 12 months of completion or settlement into the home.
  • Tax is not payable on the grant.
